Through these active adventure-based play interventions, clients can gain a sense of belonging, develop positive identities, increase self-esteem, build meaningful relationships, develop impulse control, and practice appropriate expression of feelings. The strategies presented in this workshop can also be used to help improve communication, teach conflict resolution, and build connections between clients and their parents and other family members. Special emphasis will be placed on developing professionals’ understanding of selecting, sequencing, leading, and processing experiential adventure therapy techniques clients. Through lecture, discussion, and participation in activities, participants will be invited to consider how experiential adventure therapy techniques may be applied in their ongoing counseling practice.
